Problems Focusing / ADHD
Is your child having trouble focusing at school, getting in trouble for being disruptive, or struggling to get homework done? These are all common behaviors associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. At Bloom Mental Health we understand that children need to be active, and that a holistic approach is needed when evaluating a child for ADHD. We regularly treat children and adolescents with ADHD symptoms, including complex cases in which other factors may be at work (such as anxiety, depression, medical problems, or other concerns) and work with you to help your child be their most fulfilled and successful self. |
Autism / Asperger's (ASD)
We regularly evaluate and treat children on the autism spectrum, and can be particularly helpful assisting with mood or behavioral concerns your child may have. We can partner with your therapist to ensure you and your child get the psychiatric support you need to feel confident and thrive, and can also help with therapy referrals if you are unsure where to start. Our practice is well aware of how sensitive to medications children on the spectrum can be, and we take a cautious approach to medications while integrating other aspects of healthy living (e.g. therapy, diet, exercise, supplements). |
Anxiety
Children and teens with anxiety express feelings of anxiousness or fear disproportional to a situation, no matter how much you reassure them. This can make it hard for them to sleep and relax, and make them feel tired and irritable all the time. If your child or teen is suffering from symptoms of anxiety, we can help evaluate and treat them. |
Misophonia
Is your child really bothered by certain "normal" sounds? Chewing, pens clicking, dogs barking, mechanical rattles, or other daily noises...for children suffering from Misophonia sounds often perceived as background noise to others can seem incredibly heightened, causing an involuntary response of anxiety or anger. Misophonia is a neurological disorder in which certain sounds can trigger emotional or “fight or flight” responses which may seem extreme to others. It is still a poorly understood condition, but appears to be quite common in certain populations. At Bloom we feel strongly that those suffering from these symptoms should have treatment options and a greater understanding of the neurology behind their condition. As proud members of the Misophonia Association and one of the only practices in the country specializing in the treatment of Misophonia, we strive to bring greater awareness to this condition as well as evidenced based treatment options for those suffering from it. If you or a loved one suffer from this, remember that you are not alone and help is available. Give us a call! |
Tourette's Syndrome / Tic Disorders
Involuntary, repetitive movements and vocalizations can be scary and frustrating for both children and parents. Whether onset is sudden or has been building over a period of time, there are treatment options which can help; we are here to walk you through them and regain a sense of peace. |
Child / Adolescent Depression
Depression in children often manifests in more subtle ways than in adult patients; in can look like mental fog or being "out of it", trouble concentrating, feeling unusually down, moody, or unhappy, or seeming to be tired all the time. If you have concerns about depression, we can help. We'll partner with you to evaluate your child and find the safest, most effective treatment path to bringing the sunshine back into your child's life. |
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Children suffering from OCD often describe looping thoughts, words, or phrases in their head that they cannot stop. They may also feel the need to do excessive rituals, such as wash their hands multiple times, check door locks, or keep things much neater and organized than is needed. Often, this overwhelming drive to maintain order or inability to calm looping thoughts leads to feelings of anxiety and stress. We regularly evaluate and treat OCD in children, and would be glad to discuss this with you. |
Concerns About Strange or Psychotic Behaviors
Has your child has been behaving strangely, isolating themselves, loosing interest in their normal activities, and seeming like they are "not themselves"? Psychosis symptoms are much different than portrayed in the media; at Bloom we understand the fear and concern that surrounds this diagnosis, and want to assure you that there is hope. If you are worried about your child's unusual behaviors, we can help. We regularly assess and treat children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing these symptoms, using a combination of therapy, natural treatments, and careful medication management. |
Complex Case Assessments
We do second opinions and more in-depth consultations around children with unusual medical or psychological conditions that require more in-depth assessment. If your child is experiencing complex concerns, and if you are unsure about present treatments they are receiving, we are happy to discuss an in-depth, second opinion review with you. |
