KETAMINE THERAPY FAQS
At Bloom Mental Health we want to meet your urgent concerns with urgent answers. Sometimes we have time to tiptoe into the world of medication...other times we need a powerful solution, and we need it fast.
For many, Ketamine Therapy is that solution! Ketamine Infusion Therapy is a uniquely powerful treatment option that helps many suffering from overwhelming depression, and sometimes PTSD, OCD, and anxiety. It can be a life changing experience, and is known for quickly giving a renewed sense of hope and wellbeing. |
What is Ketamine & Ketamine Infusion Therapy?
In medical terms Ketamine is a "dissociative anesthetic" which has been used by doctors for decades to treat pain and prepare for procedures. It is safe, proven, effective, with a long-standing track record of success. Over the last 15 years it became clear that it is also immensely beneficial to some patients suffering from depression and other psychiatric concerns. In a patient's words Ketamine is a helping hand pulling them out of the dark, the missing link in treatment, a profound turning point in regaining a lost sense of self. When given in low, sub-anesthetic doses (less than 2 mg/kg) it often promotes profound feelings of tranquility and hope for the future. Many describe it as one of the most powerful experiences they have ever had. Ketamine can be very effective for those suffering from severe or medication-resistant depression. It also shows promise in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and some severe cases of anxiety. At Bloom we offer Ketamine Infusion Therapy. In addition to standard Ketamine dosing, we are also among the first Ketamine Therapy Clinics to offer Microdosing - a unique and highly effective treatment strategy for patients who are sensitive to medication. |
Why Choose Ketamine Therapy at Bloom Mental Health?
At many clinics, Ketamine is simply a procedure. For us, it's an integral part of your overall wellness plan. At Bloom Mental Health, we feel strongly that Ketamine is a powerful tool in mental health treatment, but that it should be used in conjunction with caring for you, the whole person. At Bloom Mental Health we will be with you every step of the way, managing all of your psychiatric medications when needed, coordinating with your existing therapist or other care providers, and discussing ALL healthy options to help get you better, fast. |
Who is Ketamine Infusion Therapy Right For?
Ketamine is a powerful tool in treating depression and can be helpful where other treatments have failed. It has given life-changing relief and a renewed sense of hope to many who felt they might never find that light at the end of the tunnel. Ketamine is ideally suited for use with:
To that end, Ketamine can be a highly effective tool for some patients when combined with proper medication management and therapy. When recommending Ketamine Infusion Therapy as a treatment option Dr. Webb will treat our patients as a whole person, taking into account their past or ongoing experience with therapy, other medication treatments, as well as non-pharmaceutical treatments (such as TMS, ECT, and triple chronotherapy). |
What Is It Like to Have Ketamine Infusion Therapy at Bloom Mental Health?
Ketamine infusion therapy is a safe, peaceful, outpatient procedure. We administer it in our comfortable, specially-appointed therapy rooms in the privacy and tranquility of our office. All treatment is done under the guidance of highly trained nurses who are personally supervised by Dr. Webb. The experience takes approximately one hour and we typically suggest you do multiple infusions over the course of two weeks. This approach tends to produce the most powerful, clear results. We strongly believe in psychotherapy, and will happily support and coordinate with your therapist during the treatment process. Ketamine can lead to unexpected breakthroughs in your therapy, and help get past areas where you may feel stuck. |
Can My Therapist be Involved in My Ketamine Infusion Therapy?
Yes! Dr. Webb strongly believes in holistic, evidenced-based care and to that end we welcome and encourage your therapist to be actively involved in your treatment plan with us. Dr. Webb can consult with your therapist throughout the process to ensure we are working together on the fastest path to success for you. Some patients benefit in speaking to their therapist by phone while receiving their Ketamine Infusion Therapy; it can help you and your therapist make new strides in progress you never thought possible, gaining fresh insight into how to approach existing problems and quickly opening doors to living free from the mental health concerns you have been burdened with for too long. |
Is Ketamine Habit-Forming?
Because Ketamine is such an effective treatment option for severe or medication-resistant depression, many patients associate strong feelings of wellbeing with their treatments. This can, in theory, produce feelings of dependence. However, chemical dependence on ketamine at the dose and frequency offered is very rare. We monitor patients carefully to ensure Ketamine therapy is used in a limited capacity and only to the extent it is needed to restore them, so that they can continue other forms of treatment such as therapy, medications, and natural treatments. Bloom Mental Health has implemented two key tenants which guide all of our prescribing, including Ketamine Injection Therapy: 1. Always offer the free and natural alternatives first and try them if you can. 2. Always have a firm exit strategy from any medication or injection therapy with habit forming potential. Ketamine as a tool in reaching your goal, it is not the goal in and of itself. |
The Microdose Method
Choosing a treatment as powerful as ketamine can be intimidating! At Bloom, we always believe in trying the safest, most holistic path possible. And this applies to ketamine. If you are interested in ketamine, but worried about how it will feel to you, you'll find a friendly listening ear with us. As powerful as ketamine is, the purpose of treatment is not just to have a “feel good” experience that comes and goes. Good treatment leads to lasting, meaningful change that translates to all parts of your life. This means reconnecting with loved ones, making new progress in therapy, and finding direction and purpose in your home and work life. Our goal is not simply to get you into Ketamine Infusion Therapy....our goal is to get you better, fast. At Bloom, we care for you, the whole person. We can integrate ketamine infusion treatment as needed into your whole mental health treatment plan. This means coordinating with your therapist, medical health providers, and talking to you about other medication and natural options. If you are interested in this powerful treatment option, give us a call. We’ll talk with you about many treatment options, including if ketamine infusion is right for you. |
Chronic Pain/Alcohol and Drug Addiction:
Ketamine is sometimes used to treat chronic pain and addiction. We specialize exclusively in the treatment of mental health, and while we do not offer Ketamine Injection Therapy for chronic pain, we would be happy to refer you to a clinic versed in pain management who can assist you. Ketamine is also currently being tested as a treatment for alcohol and drug addiction. While this shows promise, it is still experimental. |
Bloom Mental Health is a proud member of the American Society of Ketamine Physicians, dedicated to the safe and clinical use of ketamine for mental health disorders.
